Introduction

Like many lawyers, you’ve likely dreamed of being your own boss and growing a business by providing top-notch client service. But have you ever considered why you want to start a new law firm, or whether you have the desire and skills to do so? You might be a newer lawyer excited to go out on your own; maybe you’ve been around the block and you want to start gearing down; or maybe you’re just at an inflection point in your career and are wondering if a change is needed.

Starting a new law firm is not for everyone. The skills it takes to be a great lawyer are necessary but not sufficient: running a trial and running a business are very different things and require different skillsets.

In this lesson, you will look inwards, thinking about who you are and what is right for you. This will help you determine whether starting a new law firm is the right move for you.
