Tasks a Lawyer Must Perform

The Code of Conduct does not list tasks that only lawyers can do, but Rule 6.1-3  states what your staff are prohibited from doing. For example, you cannot delegate:

  • advising clients and taking instructions on all substantive matters;
  • appearances in the Court of Queen’s Bench; and
  • acting finally with regard to matters involving professional legal judgment.

Even tasks that you delegate to staff must be overseen by you.
