Introduction and Objectives

Setting up file management processes that you can rely on will give you peace of mind as they will assist you with compliance of Code of Conduct obligations and the Rules of the Law Society of Alberta. Various Code obligations and Rules will be referred to throughout this module. 

The objectives of the File Management module are to:   

  • learn about file organization; 
  • learn about digital file considerations; 
  • learn what should be included in a file opening procedure and checklist; 
  • learn about the benefits of and how to use a Master File List; and  
  • learn what should be included in a file closing procedure and checklist.
