Types of Conflicts

Conflicts of interest may fall into the following categories:

  • Current client conflicts

    These are conflicts that arise when one client's legal interests are directly adverse to the immediate interests of another client.

  • Former client conflicts

    These are conflicts that arise if a lawyer is asked to act against a former client.

  • Lawyer-client conflicts

    These are conflicts where a lawyer has a personal or economic interest that conflicts with the client's interest, impacting the lawyer's ability to provide unbiased counsel.
